The #Justice4Life Van Tour kicked off with a successful, and interesting, first day yesterday! The five states we are targeting, Missouri, Indiana, Alaska, West Virginia, and North Dakota all began their tour, with students energized to push for the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh.
In North Dakota, we partnered with Susan B. Anthony List for a rally in Fargo, outside of the office of Senator Heitkamp. University of Mary Students for Life leader Bridget Hobbs spoke about how the Pro-Life Generation supports Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court. But, someone, possibly a pro-choice activist, stole a megaphone from Students for Life! This did not deter the group of students, who know they can be just as loud without a megaphone.

The Missouri team took a quick detour across the border to Illinois, where the students were able to engage in an important discussion with the staff for Senator Duckworth.Brie Heraty, Students for Life leader at St. Louis University and a resident of Illinois said, “Students for Life of America’s meeting with the staff of Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth’s staff member went well considering a major difference of opinion on the issue of abortion. As the Missouri team for the Justice4Life campaign, we obviously wanted to encourage Senator Duckworth to confirm Brett Kavanaugh as the next Supreme Court Justice. So, we spoke to Judge Kavanaugh’s character and the fact that he is a judge who is fair and just to all, not just those who hold similar political ideology to himself. We brought up the fact that Illinois residents would be happy with the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh because he is someone who upholds free speech while also making sure to rule by the law of the Constitution.”
Team Missouri also were able to meet, by chance, with Representative Ann Wagner, a strongly conservative and pro-life Congresswoman. Wagner has an election today, but she still took time to meet with Students for Life members.
Team Indiana joined up with Susan B. Anthony List for a rally outside of Senator Donnelly’s office, where Marissa Gentry, Indiana Regional Coordinator for Students for Life, spoke in favor of Brett Kavanaugh. Senator Donnelly voted for Justice Gorsuch, so he is considered a strong possibility to vote for Kavanaugh.
Team Alaska and West Virginia had long travel days, but joined in for a late-night training session with all the other vans, where students and staff were prepped on media relations, political activism, and how to stand out as pro-life leaders!
